This week's update: 6 new pages
As promised in our launch post, here's the first real batch of new guides — exactly the kind of weekly update you should expect from this journal going forward.
Islands department: complete
All six main islands now have full standalone guides. Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi — previously just a paragraph each on the Islands hub — now have the same depth of coverage as Oʻahu, Maui, the Big Island and Kauaʻi. Both islands are genuinely different trips from the main four, and both were worth doing properly rather than rushing.
Stay department: two new area breakdowns
Following the same format as our Oʻahu areas guide, we've published Maui areas compared (Kaʻanapali/Lahaina, Wailea/Kihei, Upcountry and Hana) and Big Island areas compared (Kona/Kohala vs. Hilo vs. Waimea) — both islands where picking the wrong base can cost you real driving time you didn't plan for.
Do department: choosing a luʻau
A commercial luʻau is one of the most-booked activities in the state and also one of the most-misunderstood — our new luʻau guide covers what to actually expect, what varies between venues, and how to book smart.
Food department: food trucks by island
Some of the best, most affordable meals in Hawaiʻi come from a truck in a gravel lot, not a restaurant with a view. Our new food trucks by island guide covers the North Shore garlic shrimp scene, Paʻia's truck cluster on Maui, Hilo's farmers-market ecosystem, and Kauaʻi's shrimp trucks and small-town stands.
What's next
See the roadmap in our launch post — a hotels & resorts directory and a packing list are next up.
